HUB - Dan Vs.

I had the pleasure of working on the HUB networks "DAN VS" this year. I helped out halfway through season 2 with turnarounds and designed characters for season 3. Under the tutelage of the lead designer, the immensely talented Chris Battle supervised this graphic character style. I really enjoyed  working with Chris and learning the style and simplifying designs in a way that was so liberating. My favorites that I had the privilege to design are in the top row of the first page above.

Kate and Sawyer

Yep, my parents named their dogs after the characters from 'Lost'. So I felt the need to document it as an early Xmas gift for the family. Sawyer is the one on the bottom, a very hyper dog that acts like the alpha but cowers at the first sign of danger. Kate is the runt of the litter but don't let her size fool you, she wears the pants in the family. Putting raggedy clothing on them was another option but I opted not to.

Path of the Gods

This is a special piece that I made for the cover of our wedding thank you note cards. Its a rendering of the location where I proposed to my wife last year on the Amalfi coast in Italy. The views were spectacular of course and I thought no better place than on a hike called the Path of the Gods.  45 minutes into it, the monastery San Domenico staged the perfect setting, with Positano in sight off in the distance. I had to wait out a few sweaty tourists touring the premises before popping the question, she said yes of course, and happily hiked the rest of the trail to Positano for a celebratory Riesling.

Charlie Don't Surf!

This is some development art for a pitch called "G.A.R.Y- One Man Army" I did last year but never posted. It was for a pilot we sold and after 4 rounds of script revisions the network eventually passed. I'm considering pairing up with a publisher to create a graphic novel of the project since we were disappointed with the networks decision. There are 4 of us involved with the creation of this dark and hysterical tale of Gary, the greatest soldier the military has ever known. He took a fall for an epic military blunder and lost it all years ago, but when the military comes calling again Gary is forced out of retirement "one last time" every episode. Forced into mundane life after his discharge, the idea of buying milk at a grocery store makes him rage in public, but when in combat with an apocalypse at his heels his heart rate lowers into a peaceful state. To Gary, explosions are like the sound of wind chimes to a hippy. He keeps things real simple...punch, shoot, explode first, ask questions never.

Savage Brothers

Some recent work I did on a pilot called Savage Brothers as a character lead.

Dino Wrangling

Heres a couple more images from the iPad book. We're about halfway through now, and decided to put together a pitch for an animated property that looked like a fake Vanity Fair magazine. I did the cover above solely for the pitch, and as soon we finished that we decided the whole thing needed to look like a magazine. The vehicle designs we turned into fake car ads, and all the stories are written like an expose on our characters. Im really happy with the outcome and hopefully we can find a home for it. The bottom piece with the 3 character ensemble is some development work I did for another animated pitch.

iPad Storybook

Heres a peek at a few pages I finished for an iPad interactive storybook currently in production. I'm working with writer Matt Carpenter and I'm handling all artwork. We teamed up with a studio in India to help assemble all the materials and technical side to finalize it into an app for the iPad. Its a first for me, so plenty to learn Im sure, but I am really enjoying the process so far.

9/11 Memorial

This is a collaboration piece I did with my friend Jim Budman. He owns a gallery workspace studio in Venice that  I paint in from time to time. He originally had taken a photo of the twin towers a year to the day before the tragic event from the balcony of his studio in New York. He asked artists to do whatever they pleased with the photograph. The piece covers a little of the story of whats happened since and the moment itself. The matador bull represents the bull market, with bricks collapsing inside of it representing the housing market. The Bear, Bear market taking over, and the Dove in the wine glass is in  honor of the people who passed along with the vertical array of striped color representing the variety of ethnicity.

FOX - Allen Gregory

I did these pieces during development for Fox's "Allen Gregory". The rough expressions are what the characters ended up looking like in the final form. On the Allen Gregory page and the Principal Gottlieb and Jeremy page, the designs to the left are designs I liked that didn't make the cut. Richard stayed the same mostly. On the previous post below showing Allen Gregory publicity art is what the final design of the characters eventually looked like.
